What is a wafer type butterfly valve?
Wafer butterfly valve is a kind of butterfly valve, most of the wafer butterfly valves are designed with four holes which are aligned with the connected pipes. Wafer butterfly valves are designed to be clamped between two flanges in pipework. Most wafer butterfly valves are flange compliant. The rubber seat forms a very strong seal between the valve and the flange connection.
Working Principle of Wafer butterfly valve
Wafer butterfly valves are right-angle rotary valves that are opened or closed by rotating the disc 90 degrees. Actuated and manual valves use the same principle of operation. When fluid flow needs to be initiated, the operator rotates the handwheel 90 degrees counterclockwise. The rotation of the handle causes the valve stem and disc to follow suit. This causes the disc to align with the direction of fluid flow, which opens the valve to allow fluid to pass through. To close the valve, simply rotate the handwheel clockwise, which causes the disk to be oriented perpendicular to the pipeline, completely blocking fluid from passing through the valve. When the disk is rotated less than 90 degrees, the butterfly valve acts as a throttle.
Types of wafer butterfly valve
Manual wafer butterfly valve
Manual Wafer butterfly valve use a handwheel or handle as the control device, and the operator applies force to open or close the valve. Compared to automatic butterfly valves, this type of valve is more cost-effective. Manual butterfly valves are used in locations where electricity or other power sources are not available or are costly. In situations where the valve needs to be opened and closed frequently and high torque needs to be applied, the operator may become fatigued.
Motorized wafer butterfly valve
Motorized wafer butterfly valve are a type of butterfly valve that is operated by a motorized actuator. Pneumatic wafer butterfly valves generate pressure by utilizing compressed air into the chamber. Once the pressure exceeds a specific level of atmospheric pressure outside the chamber, the valve automatically opens or closes. Pneumatic wafer butterfly valves have a wide range of applications and can be used in a variety of industrial scenarios.
