What is a wafer type butterfly valve?

Working Principle of Wafer butterfly valve
Wafer butterfly valves are right-angle rotary valves that are opened or closed by rotating the disc 90 degrees. Actuated and manual valves use the same principle of operation. When fluid flow needs to be initiated, the operator rotates the handwheel 90 degrees counterclockwise. The rotation of the handle causes the valve stem and disc to follow suit. This causes the disc to align with the direction of fluid flow, which opens the valve to allow fluid to pass through. To close the valve, simply rotate the handwheel clockwise, which causes the disk to be oriented perpendicular to the pipeline, completely blocking fluid from passing through the valve. When the disk is rotated less than 90 degrees, the butterfly valve acts as a throttle.
